Assessment and Screening
What is Screening?
- Preschoolers entering Head Start and Child Care are screened using the Battelle screening tool and the Health and Behavior Tool.
What is an Assessment?
- All year the teachers will assess your child's developmental abilities using the Child Anecdotal Record (CAR) and a locally designed Child Assessment Tool (CAT). The teachers will watch how your child plays, builds, explores, pretends, draws, moves to music, solves problems, makes friends, and more. The teachers use this assessment to plan individual and small group learning activities that meet your child's needs. You will be asked to help with the information gathering, which will be used in your child's assessment.
Teacher Visits
What and when are Center Conferences and Home Visits (Head Start Only)?
- Teachers meet with parents at least four (4) times a year. There will be two meetings at the center and two home visits. Full year Head Start children will receive three (3) home visits.
