What is Head Start?

Head Start is a federally funded early childhood education program for low income families. Head Start offers families services in the following areas:

Early Childhood Development

  • Educational Activities to help children grow socially, emotionally, mentally and physically.
  • Child Health and Safety
    • Healthy meals and snacks
    • Vision and Hearing Screening
    • Nutrition Assessment and counseling
    • Immunizations
    • Dental Exams and follow up
    • Mental Health services

Family Involvement

  • In the Classroom
  • Decision making committees-both center wide and program wide
  • Curriculum planning
  • Home Visits and Parent Conferences
  • Parenting classes

Social Services

  • Employment
  • Drug/Alcohol Abuse

Disabilities

  • Individualized services to meet the needs of children with special needs
  • Head Start children attend full day, 128 days a year
